United Nations Delegation Visits Beledweyne to Assess Flood Damage

Beledweyne, October 10, 2012, (Weedhsan) – A delegation of United Nations officials visited the Somali town of Beledweyne on Monday (October 8th) to assess the extent of damage from recent

floods and the subsequent humanitarian needs, UN-funded Radio Bar-Kulan reported.
The Shabelle River overflowed its banks last month, displacing hundreds of people and killing at least 52. The UN Office for the Co-ordination of Humanitarian Affairs, the World Food Programme, the UN Children's Fund and the UN High Commissioner for Refugees sent representatives to meet with local administrative officials to discuss responses to the damage and displacement from the floods. They are expected to share the results of their assessment with the press.
Former Prime Minister Abdiweli Mohamed Ali recently appointed a task force of seven ministers to oversee aid delivery to the flood victims.
